914Inc.’s Corner Office Features Russell Yankwitt and His Journey to Creating Westchester’s Go-To Law Firm

Russell Yankwitt, the founder and managing partner of Yankwitt LLP, was profiled in the feature article, Corner Office, in the 4th Quarter issue of 914 Inc. magazine. The article, titled “Top of the (Legal) Mountain,” chronicles Russell’s journey from deciding to become a lawyer while climbing the Himalayan Mountains to launching and building Yankwitt LLP, a firm known for having the most credentialed and aggressive lawyers and trial attorneys outside of New York City. Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel S. Alter Joins Yankwitt LLP

Forbes has reported on a decision in a cryptocurrency case in which Yankwitt LLP partner Daniel Alter represented one of the plaintiffs. The article, “Crypto Middleman Pleads Guilty To Fraud,” provides a brief summary of the case, which involved two companies that filed a lawsuit against Barry Thompson for swindling them out of millions of dollars earmarked to buy bitcoin. Business Journal Publishes Article on COVID-19 Lease-related Litigation by Yankwitt and Tallbe

The Westchester County Business Journal published an article by Russell Yankwitt and Alicia Tallbe titled, “Covid-19: The catalyst to the tidal wave of commercial lease litigation,” that discusses the anticipated wave of lease-related litigation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As an example, the article highlights the recent lawsuit filed by global law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP against its New York landlord for breach of its lease. The authors discuss force majeure and rent abatement clauses, which are at the forefront of the Simpson Thacher case, and explain that landlords and tenants seeking to enforce or escape lease obligations will likely look to the common law doctrines of frustration of purpose and impossibility of performance and lease provisions covering termination, security, guaranty of performance, co-tenancy and default, as well as others. Additionally, the authors urge commercial landlords and tenants to hire experienced attorneys to guide them through these unchartered waters. Read the article.

On June 3, 2019, Quest acknowledged that hackers accessed the personal sensitive information of nearly 12 million Quest clients. The information includes credit card numbers, bank account information, and medical information. Quest allegedly learned about the massive data breach in May 2019 but allegedly failed to alert its clients for a period of weeks. Yankwitt LLP and Ahdoot & Wolfson, PC have filed a class action complaint seeking relief for Quest’s many victims. Read more
