Daniel Alter, Former GC of the Department of Financial Services, Pens Article on the Future of the Agency

Daniel Alter, Yankwitt LLP partner and former general counsel of the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS), recently published the article, “Another Voice: Financial services agency should embrace new missions,” in The Buffalo News. The article reflects on DFS’ mission when it was formed in 2011 and contemplates ways it could change under the new governing style and fresh perspective of Governor Kathy Hochul and the evolution of the financial services industry.

Danny explains that DFS was determined to make a place for itself at the regulatory table, which it did by helping to clean up corrupt financial markets and aid mistreated consumers. He then enumerates a number of different ways the agency should apply its considerable strength given today’s financial markets.
