Yankwitt LLP Partners Russell Yankwitt & Kathy Marks Named to the 2019 New York Super Lawyers List; Craig Cepler named to Rising Stars

Yankwitt also named in Top 25 Westchester County Super Lawyers

WHITE PLAINS, NY (September 12, 2019) – White Plains, New York-based law firm Yankwitt LLP announced that two of its partners – Russell Yankwitt and Kathy Marks – have been named to the 2019 New York Metro Super Lawyers list in the Business Litigation category. Additionally, counsel Craig Cepler has made his list debut on the 2019 New York Metro Rising Stars list also in the Business Litigation category.

Managing partner Yankwitt, who was first named to the New York Super Lawyers list in 2011, was also named to Top 25 Westchester County Super Lawyers for the fifth year and the Top 100 New York Metro Super Lawyers for the second year. This is the seventh year that Marks has received this honor.

Yankwitt LLP litigates commercial matters of all types, including contract and partnership disputes, employment and shareholder lawsuits, and premises liability cases. Recognized as Westchester’s go-to litigator and trial attorney, Yankwitt is regularly retained by New York City and Westchester law firms to collaborate on their high-stakes trials throughout the state of New York.

Active in the community, Yankwitt was the founding member and first chairperson of the Federal Bar Council’s Westchester Committee, and continues to hold leadership positions on the council today. He also serves on the boards of the Hudson Valley Legal Services, the Westchester County Bar Foundation, the Westchester County Bar Association Grievance Committee, and the Executive Leadership Committee for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Westchester County Light the Night walk.

Yankwitt graduated cum laude with his J.D. degree from Cornell Law School. After graduating, he clerked for the Honorable Thomas C. Platt in the Eastern District of New York, before working as a litigation associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP, and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York.

Marks joined Yankwitt LLP in 2010 after working for nearly 20 years in both the private and public sectors. She spent the early part of her career at two New York-area law firms before serving 15 years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. She then worked as counsel to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the New York State Attorney General’s Office before returning to private practice with Yankwitt LLP.

Marks graduated magna cum laude from both Georgetown University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Georgetown University Law Center, where she was an associate editor of the Law Journal.

Cepler focuses on commercial litigation in both the courts and alternative dispute resolution forums. He represents a wide variety of clients, including national hospitality chains, small and mid-size companies and high-net-worth individuals in contract disputes, employment and labor litigation, insurance coverage matters, defamation and fraud litigation. Prior to working at Yankwitt LLP, Cepler worked in the Bankruptcy & Restructuring group of Kaye Scholer, which merged with white-shoe law firm Arnold & Porter in 2016. Cepler graduated with his J.D. degree from New York University School of Law.
