2020: A Year to Make Lemonade

The old adage, “if you have lemons, make lemonade” could not be more appropriate for 2020. Though we are in no way minimizing the trials and tribulations this pandemic has caused, we should give ourselves permission to celebrate the victories of this past year. So, as we usher out 2020, we share with you some of Yankwitt LLP’s recent accomplishments – a bit of good cheer – and wish you all good health and happiness in 2021.

Yankwitt LLP Named Best Law Firm in Commercial Litigation

Yankwitt LLP was named to the U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms,” Metropolitan Tier 1 in Commercial Litigation. Achieving a tiered ranking signals a unique combination of quality law practice and breadth of legal acumen. Earlier this year, in addition to having six Yankwitt LLP attorneys recognized in the New York Metro Super Lawyers and Russell Yankwitt being named to the Super Lawyers Top 25 in Westchester County, Russell also was named to the Best Lawyers in America© in Commercial Litigation, an honor bestowed on only 5% of lawyers practicing in the United States.

Three Accomplished Attorneys Join Yankwitt LLP

Since March, two partners – Ross Morrison and Daniel Alter – and one counsel – Ben Fishman – have joined the firm’s White Plains office. Ross and Danny served as Assistant U.S. Attorneys, and all three attorneys held federal clerkships and honed their litigation skills with New York City law firms. Danny also held high-ranking positions with the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the New York State Department of Financial Services. Though we are all working from our respective homes, the team is united and strong and ready to assist our clients. We look forward to officially welcoming Ross, Danny, Ben and Anxhela Mile, our new law clerk/soon-to-be associate, when the office reopens in 2021.

Yankwitt LLP Resolves Cases Amid Court Closures

Although the courts were closed or operating at a lower capacity or virtually for much of 2020, Yankwitt LLP continues to provide its clients with excellent lawyering that has resulted in optimal resolutions in a variety of cases, including these recent fourth quarter wins:

— A Second Circuit appeal on behalf of a foreign company that was resolved favorably in CAMP, the appellate court’s mediation program, which resulted in a reduced judgement and favorable payment terms for our client. Read more.

— A complex employment matter on behalf of a prominent, local small business that involved difficult severance negotiations resulting in the former employee agreeing to vacate the employer’s property during the pandemic, without resorting to litigation.
